Weekend Recap: Running, Pizza Night and Family Time

Oh this weekend was good for the soul. After quite a few weekends of back to back craziness (all good craziness) it was so refreshing to have two straight days of quiet relaxation. I hope you are all popping over to the blog this Monday feeling as refreshed as I am today. And if you aren’t, I hope you are able to have a relaxing evening as the week begins.

Saturday

Saturday morning started off on a humorous note. As usual, Landon headed to his soccer game, but since it was cold and we had a Easter egg hunt to go to, I opted to stay home with Niah and get my run in before we left for the egg hunt. I ended up only getting half of the run in before Landon came home and we scurried off to the egg hunt. Much to our surprise, we got there only two minutes after the hunt started and poor Niah only got 1 egg (out of the alleged 5k eggs on the field.) Apparently, kids collect eggs quickly! Thankfully, Niah was more interested in the inflatables at the park than the eggs, which was a huge relief.

With the failed Easter egg hunt behind us, we headed to Aldis to grab a few groceries, where I ended up spilling a box of lettuce and cracking the top of a honey jar open. #mylife I seriously don’t know how either of those things happened. I guess it is safe to say I am not the most graceful person around.

After our eventful morning, I made Landon breakfast, while he took a COLD shower (our hot water heater broke and we are getting it fixed tomorrow. COLD water isn’t pleasant, FYI) and I fed Niah lunch. While Landon ate his breakfast, I quickly got a couple more miles in and finished off with an easy four miles for Saturday. Since my long runs have been happening mid week, I’m using the weekends for recovery miles and enjoying the different change of pace. Normally, I love doing my long run on the weekends, but with the nasty weather, it has been nice getting it done early in the week.

Once my run was done, I fueled up with a salad + beans + homemade ranch and we spent the rest of our afternoon getting projects done. While Niah napped, I answered some work emails, cleaned the house, and all of that normal fun stuff.

Saturday afternoon, I decided pizza sounded like a good way to end the evening, so I threw together an easy crust (thank goodness for bread machines!) and made a quick homemade sauce. Homemade pizza > any other pizza.

We ended our evening with pizza, salad and a movie. Pretty much my favorite way to end any weekend evening!

Sunday

Sunday morning was much less eventful than Saturday morning and I even had time to sneak in a run before church. I ended up going another 4 miles, this time at a 7:17 pace! I was so excited to see my speed work paying off. Even though speed work is not my favorite thing to do, I love seeing the results and reward for all my hard work! It’s been a while since I’ve been in the 7:teens for a run and I was feeling pretty pleased with how the run felt. WOOHOO.

After my amazing run, we headed off to church for a super encouraging sermon + good food and fellowship. One of my favorite parts about church is spending time with other believers and encouraging one another over a meal together. Soul refreshing, to say the least.

Once we got home, we put Niah down for bed and played a couple rounds of one of our favorites card games. Any other Dominion fans out there? Oh and I downed a couple cans of this…

The rest of the night we spent eating salads + sweet potato fries and running around the house playing ‘chase’ with Niah. One of my favorites times of the day is when Niah gets  a piggyback ride from Landon and we chase each other around the house. Listening to Benaiah’s squeals of delight makes my mommy heart SO happy!

Landon and I capped off the weekend with banana ice cream shakes (bananas + almond milk + whey protein) and some Dick Van Dyke for good measure.

Needless to say, it was a soul refreshing, encouraging weekend and I would love to go back and repeat every single minute of it! I hope you all have a fantastic rest of your Monday

Catch you soon!
