Our First 5k Together + Lots of Outdoor Adventures
Good morning and greetings to you all on this Tuesday morning. I hope you are coming to the blog feeling refreshed after a fun weekend and a hopefully smooth Monday.
Last weekend was FABULOUS. Between an amazing 5k race (first race postpartum!), beautiful weather, and delicious eats, I didn’t want the weekend to end. On a side note, is it just me or does the weather play a huge role in how you feel? I never really realized how much the weather impacts my energy, but lately I’ve noticed that when the sun is shining and the weather is warm, life feels 538x better than normal.
And last weekend, that’s how life felt.
Saturday
Saturday morning began very early, with my alarm waking me up at 4:50 am. Yikes! I was so excited and it felt like Christmas morning, since we had a 5k in just a few hours. I quickly made myself a cup of coffee, woke Landon up, and toasted a couple bagels.
We scooped poor, sleepy Benaiah out of his crib, strapped him into his car seat and left the house by 5:30, bagels, race gear, and water bottles in tow.
Our 5k was a little ways away, but we made it with plenty of time to spare. Since we were so early, we found a close parking spot and registered Landon with no lines. This was our first race together, as a couple, and I was so excited to see Landon race!
Shortly after arriving, my mom arrived and our pit crew.
More like Benaiah crew.
We chatted for a few minutes, stretched, and before we knew it, we were off! I’ll share a full recap of the race, tomorrow, but in short, it was a great race.
I felt super strong and was very happy with the race results. Once the award ceremony was over, we said goodbye to my mom and sisters, and headed back home. Once we came home, we spent time cleaning up the house, refueling with a large plate of eggs and toast, and napping.
Food and sleep mean a lot to me. Once we felt a little more put together, we took advantage of the gorgeous weather and left for a quick trip to the park.
Everything is in bloom around here and in just a few, short days, leaves will be on the trees. I love this time of year. Everything feels so fresh and is so beautiful.
We had to convince Benaiah that the grass wasn’t as scary as it looked. The poor little guy wasn’t super excited about playing around in the greenery. It took him a while, but eventually he started crawling around and enjoying the fresh air as much as mom and dad were.
We stayed until our stomachs reminded us that dinner time was near. When we arrived back home, we whipped up a lazy dinner of salads + grilled chicken and downed it in about 5 seconds.
In case anyone is wondering, quinoa + feta cheese is a delicious combination. We spent the rest of the evening lounging on the couch, eating popcorn, and watching a movie before heading to bed.
Sunday
Benaiah thought it would be cool to wake mom up at 6:30 am on Sunday morning. Instead of attempting to put him back to bed and try to put myself back to sleep, I took advantage of the early morning and spent time reading my Bible and getting ready for church.
I made Landon and myself a protein smoothie, which hit the spot and shortly after, we left for church.
Normally, we stay at our church for the weekly potluck, but since we both were feeling under the weather, we came home early and spent the rest of the day relaxing and laying low.
Sunday’s weather was fabulous and we took advantage of the day by taking another trip to the park to get some Vitamin D in.
Benaiah still wasn’t a fan of the grass, but he did like the frisbee.
Once we came home, Landon and Benaiah took a nap, while I read Persuasion. (any other fellow Jane Austen lovers out there?)
We made chicken salads for dinner (I know, again!) and finished our evening with popcorn and a movie. We obviously enjoy our little weekend routine and I don’t it will change any time soon!
I hope you guys had a fabulous weekend. I’ll catch you all tomorrow with my RACE RECAP! Stay tuned 🙂
