Long Runs, Family Sleepovers, and Horses

I know I say that every weekend goes by too quickly, but let me tell you, this weekend really went by fast. We spent a lot of time with family, which was awesome, but since we were with family for most of the weekend, we weren’t home very much and spent a lot of time traveling to and from destinations.

But that’s okay, because family time is the best time. Am I right, or am I right?

Saturday

Saturday morning, I woke up, early as usual to a hungry Benaiah. I was hungry too and snacked on a plain rice cake with peanut butter since I knew I had some miles to conquer. After spending a few hours reading my Bible, cleaning the house, and entertaining Benaiah, Landon woke up and took over so I could go running. I ran five miles and enjoyed every second of the fresh air, sunshine and time spent pounding the pavement. I felt super good during the run and shaved about 20 seconds off my overall pace. Let the celebration begin!

Landon and Benaiah were out running too and once we all came home, we refueled with protein shakes and a few peanut butter puffins for good measure. 😉

We spent our next few hours conquering a few projects and packing up for a trip out to see Landon’s parents.

Before we left, I made an easy lunch of grilled chicken and sauted brussel sprouts (does anyone love those things as much as I do?) while Benaiah ate a banana.

We made it to my in-laws early afternoon and spent the day catching up, playing croquet, eating Chinese food, and celebrating Landon’s birthday.

Benaiah was quite amused by the cats and loved spending time with his grandma, grandpa, aunts and uncles.

I didn’t get many pictures the rest of the evening, but I did spend a lot of time laughing, talking and spending time with people I love. We decided spur of the moment to spend the night with the family and ended up crashing way past my bed time 😉

Sunday

Sunday morning came bright and way too early, thanks to the little sleep I got the night before. Thankfully, Landon took Benaiah down to play, which allowed me to get an hour more of rest.

Once I woke up, we all got ready for church and headed with the family to their church. We enjoyed the service and left encouraged, but in a rush to get to a funeral for my great uncle. I learned Friday evening, that my great uncle had passed. I have quite a few funny memories with this uncle and I was sad to hear about his passing. My sister’s and I were asked to sing at his service, so we met my sister’s and family at the funeral home before the service began.

It was good to see my extended family, but I always hate it when it is under those kind of circumstances.

I realized on our way to the funeral, how close we were to my old work place, so before heading home, we stopped at my old stomping grounds.

I don’t know if I mentioned it before or not, but I used to work as a camp counselor and horseback riding teacher at an equestrian center. These guys were some of the most comical horses at my work and it felt quite fitting that they were the ones to come up and say hello to me.

Rocky, the horse (okay, he’s technically a pony) on the right, was the first horse I learned how to canter on. He will always be one of my favorites there.

Just like his mama, Benaiah loved the horses and I have a feeling we have a future cowboy on our hands.

He enjoyed seeing the park and it was so fun to walk around a place which was really my second home for seven years.

We tried to get a family picture, but this is the best we got, haha. Oh well. It was so fun to share this special place with Landon.

We spent the rest of our evening unwinding at home from the long weekend and unpacking from our overnight trip. We ended the night with Rouge One and popcorn. Just the way we like it.
