Learning to Slow Down
I woke up this morning thinking of my mile long to do list: make appointment with pediatrician, clean house, workout, blog, work on insurance papers, etc.
As I sat in bed, sipping my coffee, thinking about everything I had to do today, I found myself feeling waay behind on life. For instance, I had planned two different blog posts for Monday and Tuesday that never made it up, I missed Benaiah’s 4 month appointment (mom of the year award), and I missed my workout yesterday. As I thought about all of my checklist items, I started to feel overwhelmed, thinking about my busy day ahead and wondering if I could or would get everything done.
As I sat there, blank staring at the wall across from me, Benaiah looked up at me and smiled.
It seemed as if he smiled at me to remind me of the important things. And really they aren’t that many important things.
I, like a lot of people, like to be busy, like to conquer around 2356 tasks in one day, have the kitchen spotless as I go to bed, and squeeze in quiet moments when I can.
As, I sat there looking in his little eyes, and watching Landon pour his coffee, I was reminded that I need to slow down and enjoy these moments. Learning to savor life is something that I am working on this year. I am a lover of life, but sometimes I get so busy that I don’t even have the time to slow down and watch life as it whizzes by me. So this year, I’m really trying to give myself grace (my word of the year again!) and slow. down. Savor each moment. Each snuggle. Each date night. Each early morning.
Jesus says, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) In the midst of the typical, normal day chaos, these words remind me that in Jesus there is rest for my soul and hope for tomorrow.
Anyone else want to slow down with me this year? Ironically, I want to slow down, while I speed up (i.e. full marathon this fall, more details on that soon!)
I hope you all have a blessed, peaceful Wednesday! I will catch you guys tomorrow.
