Injury Update + Fall Racing Plans/Goals

Hello there and happy Thursday to you all! I hope you guys are doing super well today. I don’t know if it is just me, but this week is FLYING. Between some crazy, busy mornings and a few weird afternoons (i.e. Benaiah not napping as long as usual) I feel like I am barely keeping afloat – haha. But, Jesus is good and life is good. And that’s enough.

GOOD NEWS! My foot is feeling a ton better, I still don’t know what is causing it for sure, but I think it may be my footwear that I use outside of running. During the summer, I live in my Chacos and I love them. They feel like they give my feet good support and plus, they give some awesome tan lines. 😉 But, I think that they might be wearing down (I have lived in the same pair for about 3 years) and that is what is causing my toe issues (?). To combat that, I decided to stop wearing the sandals for the time being and bought some Oofos > the seriously feel like I am walking on clouds. Since changing my non-running footwear, my toe isn’t hurting AND I’ve been able to run 1 mile runs two times this week. To say I am happy would be an understatement.

In addition to changing my shoes, I am trying to focus on doing all those little, non glamorous exercises that help prevent injuries. As much as I know I should be doing those exercises, it is so easy not to do. BUT, I will do just about anything to stay injury free – so I guess that means I will be doing a lot of tedious, little exercises in the weeks to come.

It’s been so good to get back to those morning runs (even if they are just one mile for now) with Benaiah. It’s one of our favorite things to do together.

Now that I am on the mend, I am really looking forward to getting back into some serious training (definitely going to ease back into that again, though) and I have my eye on a full marathon (!) on September 1 (Benaiah’s birthday, actually). My plan right now, is to recover fully from this injury, get back into training and start preparing for the marathon. As long as everything goes well, my goal for the marathon right now is to PR my previous time, run a harder/stronger/smarter race and learn more about the marathon distance. I don’t have a ton of concrete time goals right now, but I do feel ready to prepare for the marathon distance again.

Here’s to another training cycle and another go at this 26.2 distance!

I hope you all have an awesome rest of your Thursday!

Questions of the Day

  1. What shoes do you normally wear through the summer?
  2. Do you have a favorite marathon you’ve run before? Any good, local (near Chicago) fall marathons (preferably on a Saturday)?
  3. Do you have any upcoming races? If so, what are they?
