A Restful Weekend: Running, Ice Cream and Movie Nights
Hello and how are you all on this fine Monday morning? I am popping in here a little later than usual and getting my weekend recap written this morning instead of tomorrow. Today has already been fabulous, complete with an early (5 am early) 6 mile run, devotions, and coffee all before Benaiah woke up!
I love slow mornings, but most of me loves these kinds of productive, early mornings. I love feeling ahead of the game and put together before Benaiah wakes up and the rest of the day slips away.
Anyways, since this is a weekend recap, after all, let’s rewind to Saturday and start there….
Saturday
Saturday morning, Landon and I woke up feeling pretty wiped. We had an impromptu sleepover with Landon’s sisters on Friday (so fun!) but we stayed up way too late watching movies and eating ice cream cones. Although we felt pretty sleepy, we somehow managed to talk ourselves into leaving the house before 8 am in the cold and wind to get to Landon’s soccer game and my run.
Since Landon’s sisters were over, they graciously offered to watch Benaiah so Landon and I could have an early morning date.
We normally do dates out at night, but changing it up to a morning date was almost even more fun. I feel best in the mornings, since normally by 9 pm I am ready to get in my jammies and go to sleep, and I felt like I was really able to focus in and enjoy our time together.
Although Landon’s soccer game fell through (such a bummer!) we made the best of it and ran three miles together on the trails. I can’t remember the last time we ran together, alone. The miles passed by quickly and we soon finished, hopped in the car, warmed back up (why is it SO COLD in May!?) and headed to Dunkin’ Donuts for bagels!
Landon and I are on a mission to find our favorite bagels in the area. Although Dunkin’ Donuts bagels were good, I would say Einstein Bagels are still our favorite. I tried the Multigrain with cream cheese and Landon tried the Garlic bagel with veggie cream cheese. Both were delicious!
After our bagel date, we came home to a hungry Benaiah and I fed him while Landon caught up with the girls. We spent the rest of the morning getting ready for the day, cleaning the house, playing card games, and even napping as the rain fell.
Once we said goodbye to the girls, we spent some time hanging out as a family and playing before making a quick pit stop at the library and grocery store.
Benaiah loved meeting new friends at the library and played well with the other kids. We decided to pick up a few important things at the grocery store, like salad ingredients and Halo Top 😉 before coming home for dinner!
We were hungry and decided to make a massive feast, complete with a large dinner salad, pan fried potatoes, and fruit. Dinner was delicious and shortly after dinner, we put Benaiah to sleep.
Landon gave me the BEST massage I think I’ve ever had after dinner and I ended the evening feeling very refreshed and happy with a pint of oatmeal cookie Halo Top. (It was SO GOOD by the way.)
Sunday
The past two Sunday mornings, I have been waking up early and running, but this Sunday all I wanted to do was sleep in- which is what I did. It felt nice to have a slower paced morning and enjoy smoothies, a couple cups of coffee, and family snuggles before church.
We enjoyed a uplifting sermon and attended a brief church business meeting before heading back home and crashing for the day. Really, we didn’t do too much after church except attempt to find a swimsuit for me and shorts for Landon.
We stopped at Kohl’s, but I didn’t find a suit I loved. If you guys have any suggestions, I am all ears!
After our little shopping trip, we ate another salad dinner (we are addicted, send help!) and finished our evening with a game of Ticket to Ride and Dick Van Dyke – with popcorn of course. 😉
I hope you all had a lovely weekend and an even better week ahead! Catch you guys tomorrow!!
