A REALLY GOOD WEEKEND (Father’s Day 2018)
Hello there beloved readers and friends, I am coming to you on a glorious Monday feeling nothing but refreshed and ready for this week. This weekend was the first in a really, really long time (like almost a month?) that we had zero plans all weekend long. And it felt SO GOOD. I could tell last week that the whirlwind of the last few weeks was catching up with me. I felt so tired, sluggish and just craving some quality family time. Thank goodness God provided such a beautiful (hot!) weekend for the three of us to enjoy together.
Let’s rewind to Saturday morning, because that was super nice…
Saturday
Saturday morning, I woke up early, poured myself a cup of coffee, sat in the sunshine and spent time with Jesus. All last week, Benaiah either beat me up, or I had devotions while he was talking in his crib (and it works but it isn’t super peaceful) Saturday morning, I stole away in the quiet, spent time journaling, praying, and listening to worship music and it was awesome. This week I am working on early bed times and early mornings. My days are so much better when I am up early. Anyways, Saturday morning, I was able to sneak out to the kitchen, pour myself a steamy cup of foamy coffee, and savor the Word while both boys slept.
Once both of my favorite humans woke up, we quickly got ready to go and headed out for a local 4k race. When we got there I realized that the ‘race’ was more like a walk and we ended up being the only runners (everyone else walked.) It was pretty comical, but we loved supporting a good cause (the walk/run was raising awareness for crisis pregnancy centers.) and since we were the only runners we had an automatic win. I call :that a good day. Seriously though, the run was fun, I averaged around a 7:37 pace and was happy that my foot felt good too! Landon ran behind me, pushing Niah and all three of us enjoyed the post-race refreshments (they had super good bagels and iced coffee that was provided!)
We got home around 11, made some smoothies, and popped over to the pool to cool off for the afternoon. Both Saturday and Sunday this weekend we well above 80 degrees (I think it hit right around 100) and we were all pretty toasty. The pool felt great, even if Benaiah wanted to play in the sand for a majority of the time.
We spent the rest of our Saturday relaxing together, finishing up some house projects, and watching a movie before bed.
Sunday
Father’s day morning, I woke up just in time to get a breakfast made for Landon. I decided on an egg scramble with bagels and fruit, which Landon whole heartedly agreed on. After Landon read his card, we all ate breakfast and got ready to go to church. Sunday’s sermon = all the yes. It was really geared more toward fathers, but I gleaned a lot from it too. I love those sermons that are equally encouraging and convicting and Sunday’s sermon was just like that. After church we headed to Aldi, grabbed some groceries, and made a quick picnic lunch.
One thing we love about the area we live is that there are so many forest preserves, parks, and trails around. One of my goals this summer is to take full advantage of that and explore a few, new local forest persevere around the area. Sunday, we went to one about 10 minutes from us and had the best time picnicking, exploring, and playing with the water pump (that is literally all Benaiah wanted to do, haha).
We lasted as long as we could, but after about an hour and a half, we headed home to cool off before going to Landon’s brothers’ place for a last minute Father’s Day get together. We had a great time all hanging out, eating Chinese food, and playing games.
Once Landon and I got home, we relaxed with an episode of Psych, two (one for each of us) vanilla ice cream cones, and one cup of coffee. Side note: I haven’t had ice cream for a while and MAN, that was the best ice cream cone I think I’ve ever had before. Everything about this weekend was perfect, even the ice cream. Aldi fans, we picked up the Aldi’s specialty select vanilla ice cream (it has like four ingredients which I love and it tastes insanely delicious!)
It is these kind of weekends that make me wish Monday was an extra weekend day and not a week day. But weekends like these also help me feel refreshed and ready for another full week. I am so thankful for the quality time I was able to spend with my best friends. I hope your weekend was all sorts of good too!
Also, since it was Father’s Day weekend, I just have to say a very, special Father’s Day wish to my Father. Thank you dad for always loving me, supporting me, and cheering me on. I love you.
To Landon, the father of my son, happy Father’s Day babe. You seriously amaze me, every single day. I am so thankful for your caring, gentle heart, your sacrificial love, your diligent, hard work, and your zeal for life. We love you.
