A Rainy Day and Sister Sleepover (Plus: My Next RACE!)
Good morning friends and how are you on this beautiful Wednesday morning? At least, I am hoping it’s beautiful wherever you guys are reading from. The past few days have been nothing but rain and as much as I love cozy, rainy days in, I can only handle so much. I think it is finally supposed to clear up by tomorrow and I am ready!
Today, I am sharing another peek into another typical day around here.
Early Morning and Devotions
These days, I’ve been trying to get up every morning by five and have my time with Jesus before the craziness of the day begins. Yesterday, it was all I had in me to peel myself out of bed by 5:50. Oh, well. Thankfully, I still had a little over an hour to myself to have devotions and knock out a few work tasks before I heard Niah.
Benaiah is finally predictable (we will see how long that lasts) and for the past month or so I can bank on him waking up right around 7. Yesterday was no different and I heard him talking by 7:10. I quickly finished a few work related projects, scooped him out of his crib, and situated him for the day. Once Landon was up, I made his breakfast smoothie, entertained Niah and got the day underway (please note the Christmas jammies) 😉
Normally, I love working out before Benaiah and Landon are awake, but since I have to be quiet and fear waking up both of them, I’ve been opting to get my workout in while Niah naps or in the evenings. I don’t know how long this new phase of later workouts will last, but I am liking it for now.
After Landon left for work, I got Benaiah’s favorite green smoothie ready for him, cleaned up the kitchen and read his devotions + a new favorite book to him. One of my favorite morning tradiditons is breakfast time + devotions that I share with Niah. Reading out of his children’s Bible to him while he drinks up a big green smoothie is something I want to continue to do for a long time.
After he had his breakfast we played hide and seek, explored the house, and watched part of a Veggie Tales. Normally, I don’t like to do much screen time for him, but on a rainy day, choices feel a little limited. He only stayed still for about 10 minutes of the Veggie Tale (which is fine with me.) Once I drank a smoothie and changed his diaper, we snuggled and I nursed him to sleep. Unfortunately he woke up right away, after I put him in his crib, so instead of nap time, he had ‘play’ time.
While he played in his crib, I worked on some projects and worked out my upper body. Within twenty minutes my arms turned into jello and I knew I had an effective upper body day. Upper body is my least favorite area to work out, but after I finish killing my arms, I always feel good. I used this and this video and quickly got ready for the day afterwards. You know it was a good arm day when you are barely able to put your makeup on. Workout = success.
Lunch Time and Visits with Friends
Landon came home shortly after my workout and we shared an easy leftover lunch consisting of a salad, chicken and rice with sauted onions and peppers. Simple and filling! Not too long after Landon left for lunch, my new friend Jen (we met at the park!) came over with her two kids. We hung out while the kids played and chatted a mile a minute about everything from how we met our husbands to our favorite easy dinners. It was so great to catch up with her again. I am seriously, so thankful for the women I’ve meeting at parks and through church. I’ve realized over this past year just how important solid, ‘mom’ friendships are and I feel blessed to have so many friends who are so close by too.
Once Jen and the kiddos left, I quickly got Niah ready for nap time and put him down. Thankfully, since he missed his morning nap, he was more than ready for his afternoon nap. I realized this once he was laying down on top of a Cheerio box. hahah. While he slept, I worked on some projects for work, run coaching, and tidied up this blog post. While I was working, my stomach qued me it was time to snack, which ended up being a gluten free, protein, peanut butter cookie. YES.
Dinner and SISTER TIME
A few hours later, Landon came home for a quick dinner before heading back to work for a short project. Yesterday morning, as the rain drizzled outside and I sat, inside, freezing, I decided to make a big pot of soup for dinner. I didn’t have much to work with (need to go grocery shopping asap) so I used what I had and ended up with a cream of broccoli (plus other veggies) soup.
For the soup, I used a bunch of random veggies I had in the fridge (one sweet potato, one white potato, broccoli, and cauliflower.) I then sauted the veggies in olive oil, steamed them in a mixture of mostly water a little milk and pureed it once it was all cooled. I ended up throwing a bunch of spices in the soup, some nutritional yeast and called it good. It ended up surprisingly tasty, although it wasn’t the most photogenic meal, ever. I also whipped up some oat flour drop biscuits, because what is soup without flaky biscuits?
Landon popped back in before heading out to men’s Bible study, I chatted with my mom over the phone, and then Abby came over for a SISTER NIGHT! After I put Benaiah down, we grabbed some slices of healthy pie, two cups of steamy coffee, and sat down for conversation. We had the best time talking about various topics, laughing our heads off like school girls. Sister = the best. I also ended up signing up for a November half marathon (!!!) because my MOM is going to run it too!! I am so stinking proud of her and she is rocking her running game! We signed up together last night and I am so excited to run this race with her. It will be a blast. Signing up for a race last night made the night extra special, since it is my mom’s first half marathon.
Once Landon came home, we played a couple rounds of Dutch Blitz, before heading to bed at an alarming late hour. Tuesday, you were good.
Hope you guys have a fantastic Wednesday, thanks for stopping by the blog today.
