A Sweet Weekend
Hey there friends and welcome back to the blog. I hope you have a hot cup of coffee in hand and are ready to read a long blog post, because I have a feeling this is going to be a long recap.
I love recap posts for multiple reasons, mainly I love being able to document my weekends and then look back on all the fun adventures, Landon, Benaiah and I have shared over the months. Also, I really just love reading what other people do on the weekends and I hope you enjoy reading my weekend activities too!
Anyways, moving on…
Saturday
We have a tradition going on over here on Saturdays. Saturday mornings, we wake up early, grab our soccer and running gear and head out the door to Landon’s early morning soccer game! Although Saturday morning’s weather ended up being a little on the cool side, Benaiah and I enjoyed a three mile run together, while Landon played soccer.
I’ll be honest, running with a stroller is tough work, but Saturday morning, I felt like I was flying. I don’t know what it was about the run, but I was thankful to feel so strong and energized.
After Landon’s game ended, we drove home and shortly afterwards, enjoyed a big breakfast of scrambled eggs and big bowls of Greek yogurt topped with flaxseed.
We dedicated Saturday afternoon to fun things, like home projects, and then afterwards, we went for a nice long walk outside.
After a easy dinner of grilled chicken salads (I think I could eat this 5x a week) we ended the evening with Dick Van Dyke and Halo Top. Yes and yes and yes.
Sunday
Okay guys, so Benaiah SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT Saturday night. I slipped under the covers Saturday night at nine o’clock (since I’m such a grandma already) and didn’t wake up until 5:45am. I don’t know if I have enough words to describe just how glorious, eight hours of uninterrupted sleep felt. I haven’t slept that long in a little over eight months, and man it felt amazing.
Since 1: I had so much energy from my 8 hours of sleep and 2: I had yet to fit my long run in for the week, I threw on my running clothes and went for one of the best runs I’ve ever had.
I ran a familiar-to-me path and cranked out six miles before the rest of the world woke up. About mid way through my run, I noticed that each of my mile times, progressively getting faster. So, I decided to keep the trend going. My splits ended up being: 8:19/ 8:13/ 8:03/ 7:49/ 7:38/ and 7:21/ with an overall time of 7:54 average. Back in the day, I used to run lots of miles under 8 minutes per mile and I’m finally seeing my pace increase. Seeing those negative splits and that 7:54 average, made me super happy. I think as runner’s we love seeing progress, and any, even tiny amount of progress makes us ridciulosly happy. I think I talked about my run with Landon for about 67% of the day and he was gracious enough to entertain me.
Post run breakfast = only the best, my favorite Chocolate Almond Protein Smoothie. YESS.
I am also pretty sure I snacked on a bunch of these almonds throughout Sunday…
After breakfast, we all got ready for church and enjoyed a really encouraging, while very convicting sermon on Biblical love. Immediately after the sermon, we ate a potluck lunch with friends, before I helped lead a girls’ Bible study.
After the Bible study, we said our goodbyes and drove our sleepy boy home. This past week was super rainy, but thankfully Sunday was absolutely gorgeous. Since it was so nice, we decided to spend some time outside, playing volleyball. Honesty time: I am HORRIBLE at volleyball, so one of my goals for this summer is to learn how to play volleyball at least, decently. So, now your job is to check back in later this year and see if I actually did it or not. 😉
Once we walked back home, I whipped up an easy dinner of leftovers – black bean burgers for me.
Landon and I played a fun round of Ticket to Ride before ending the evening with a big bowl of popcorn and Jurassic Park III. Have you guys seen all the Jurssaic Park movies? What is your favorite? Personally, I liked the third the best. 😉 I felt like the movie quality was a lot better and the story line was a little more interesting.
I crashed hard Sunday night and slept like a baby, thanks to my six morning miles!
And that was our weekend- lots of sunshine, exercise, family time and good food! Just the way weekends are supposed to be, right? I hope you all have a wonderful Tuesday and I will talk with you all again tomorrow morning!
