Hey there and happy Tuesday to you! I am coming off the best weekend ever and can’t wait to share it with you! First, let me say, that this weekend was busy and full and it went by wayy to quickly, but it was such a jam-packed fun weekend. I hope you are coming to the blog feeling refreshed and ready to conquer this world, today, regardless of how your weekend went.

Saturday

Saturday was a different day for us, because Landon was on a guys’ trip (he was camping with some of his guy friends for a bachelor party.) Instead of hanging out by myself for the day, Landon’s sisters spent the night on Friday night and we partied Saturday by going out for coffee, hitting up the running store for some KTTape, and talking a mile a minute. Since Saturday was the day before my half marathon, I ran a quick and easy 2 mile shakeout run that felt just okay, before a made myself my typical smoothie for breakfast.

Honestly, Saturday morning I wasn’t for sure how Sunday was going to go. I felt so discouraged about my tight IT bands and was tempted to just not go. I didn’t want to feel the pain of going to the race and having to drop out if I needed to. While I constantly worried about every single stiffness and tightness, I foam rolled and kept my legs loose by walking downtown with my SILs.

After they left, I put Niah down for a nap, while I got the house cleaned and read Meb for Mortals > my new, favorite running read. I finished it on Saturday and felt so encouraged by Meb’s outlook on racing, running, and just living life. Shortly after, Niah woke up and Landon finally got back from his camping trip.

We were glad to have the family back together and took a quick walk to the park. Have you ever had one of those events that you totally forget about and realize that you can still make it on time if you rush out the door? That was us Saturday. Landon realized last minute that we had RSVP’d to a game night and totally forgot all about it. Thankfully, we had enough time to hop into the car and made it there just in time for a few games and some pizza.

I haven’t had pizza in eons and it tasted AMAZING. Perfect carb loading meal, right? Although, side note: Landon and I have been off dairy for the past almost two months now and I feel slightly sick every time I eat some now. I don’t know what to think of that now. I felt a little sick after eating the pizza, but not terrible. I ended the night after another foam rolling session and a 3/4 full pint of Halo Top (the dairy free kind.) HIT THE SPOT.

Sunday (HALF MARATHON DAY!)

Since I was so nervous about the half marathon, I was surprised by how good I slept. I woke up with energy, toasted a bagel and topped it with a little honey. My normal pre-race routine is bagel with jam or honey (sometimes peanut butter makes me feel a little meh on longer runs) a cup of coffee and water. After I drank my coffee and ate my bagel, I woke both boys up, and we were out the door in record time. I had been stalking the weather for the past 7 days and was super pumped to see that the forcasted rain that was scheduled moved past us, so like a genius I decided to not bring my visor or any other cold weather gear. #mistake.

I will share all the race details tomorrow,  but I wanted to save that for a special post. I will just give a teaser. The weather was not ideal, there was rain, I ran in a huge fleece zip up (that was from the race expo) because I didn’t bring my regular jacket. BUT, the race was probably the best one I’ve ever run and I couldn’t be more excited to share it with you tomorrow.

I was FREEZING cold after the race, so naturally, I foam rolled, stretched, and got into my winter coat. We made it to church a little later than planned (but not too bad for running a half marathon in the morning) and enjoyed some fellowship and food. I don’t think food ever tasted so good and I downed a good sized plate.

We spent the rest of our afternoon, relaxing at home. While Niah napped, Landon and I relaxed and watched an episode of Psych (sitting and icing my legs felt glorious) and a little later we ate a epic dinner of roasted veggies, burgers, and a salad. Sunday was literally the best day ever and I was over the moon with how the race went. Happy Bethany = cookies.

I whipped up a batch of peanut butter cookies (made with teff flour) and I can safely say all three of us were happy with that decision.

We all ended the evening falling asleep before we wanted to (Niah fell asleep while we prayed for him which he never does) and Landon and I fell asleep with the lights on. I think you can say we were done by the end of the day. 😉

I hope you all have an amazing rest of your Monday – look out for a race recap coming to you, tomorrow!
